Windows XP Desktop PC is Running very slow ?

Postby ffowc27 » Thu Jan 10, 2013 2:21 pm

I have a Desktop PC in my house and which is powered by intel P4 processor, 1 GB RAM , 120 GB HDD, and Windows XP OS. it is almost 4 years old but now it is showing some major issues, PC is running very slow. Can not handle multitasking. When I format and re-install the system it works fine for few days but later same problem.
What can i do to make it better . I just need it for Internet purposes no power use not for gaming just for internet. Is it a hard ware problem or should i change the Operating System ?
Please give me some advice

Windows XP Desktop PC is Running very slow ?

Clearly not everyone is reading this question carefully and neither are they being helpfull. Truth is, there are still people out there working with older P4 or AMD Sempron systems for whatever reason.

These days It is not expansable to upgrade to a medium-end i5 multimedia system, but people have to decide to do so themselves...
Anyway, the guy just has a simple question. How can i run my PC faster?

Here are some things you can try:
1. Completely wipe your HDD of all data and then format and re-install you OS.
2. Install only neccesary software and drivers and try to conserve HDD space.
3. Only when necesary, run a HDD defrag (should be done fairly neccesary with a fresh os install)
4. Expand RAM to 2GB if you can find some.
5. Clean you pc of all dirt and dust build-up so it cools better.

Hope this helps!

Dude!!!
You have P4 processor man...it is really old and you should either sell of your PC or if you have the LGA1155 slot for processor on your motherboard then upgrade then processor to i3 or i5 something..then upgrade your RAM
i suggest you sell of the PC..the Processor are really expensive..as expensive as a new PC itself...
really dude...you want gaming..then change it...or build one yourself..i can help you out with that if you want!

:D

In addition to Mike's good advice:

The Number One thing that makes my computer faster and more responsive, is limiting startup programs. http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
You may be suprised at how many programs start up silently, every time you turn your computer on.
