Postby Omar » Tue Sep 05, 2017 12:23 am

Hi, well i downloaded Backtrack 5 R2 on my mac today and i burnt it to a live dvd through disk utility. right now i have osx lion running. So i booted from the dvd but i dont want to carry the dvd all around or keep it in the drive all the time so if i install it on the hard drive like it says install Backtrack 5, there is an icon on the desktop. So if I install the os on my mac hard drive will it erase max os x, if it will is there a way around it. please help. Thanks

no, it will partition a piece of the hard drive for it.
there's no point though because you don't need to save information on backtrack.

If it's using the Ubuntu installer (Backtrack is Ubuntu-based) it will give you a few options:

Install side-by-side with OS X

Replace OS X

Something else (Manual partitioning)

I would use OS X to handle shrinking your available free space, that way you'll know exactly how much space it recommends you leave it, then do the Backtrack install onto the new partition you've already established. Blindly resizing your Mac partition using Backtrack's installer is not a good idea.
