What Is Device Drivers?

Postby Annawon » Tue Aug 01, 2017 1:10 pm

A driver (also known as a 'device driver' or 'software driver') is a piece of software that lets your operating system communicate with your hardware. Devices like keyboards, mice, speakers, and printers all use a software driver to interact with the operating system and other software applications.

To download drivers for a particular device, you must first identify its manufacturer and model id. Then check the manufacturer site under driver downloads or support sites. Select the driver that is compatible with your OS, download and install.

Also, to make things easier, I recommend you to use DriverFinder. Makes the tedious, hours-long task of identifying your current drivers and checking if there are new ones as easy as can be. It's a driver update utility that lets you find new drivers and install them on your system in just minutes using a few mouse clicks.

A device driver is a component that Windows uses to provide I/O services for and interact with an underlying device, such as a modem or network adapter. Rather than access the device directly, Windows loads device drivers and calls functions in the drivers to carry out actions on the device. The driver functions contain the device-specific code needed to carry out actions on the device. Device drivers for Windows Server 2003 are usually library files with .sys filename extensions.

device drivers mainly include graphic drivers ( like Ati, nVidia, intel etc), and audio drivers( like Realtek etc) .

Intel video drivers work with any configuration pc and realtek audio drivers too. If you have windows vista, 7,8 then no need of these drivers.

They are the software needed to run external hardware eg printer, scanner. You need the make of these items plus the correct name of the computer's OS eg windows xp home, then go to the manufacturer's website(s) to download the latest drivers.

A driver is software that allows your computer to communicate with hardware or devices. Without drivers, the hardware you connect to your computer?for example, a video card or a webcam?will not work properly.
