Windows 7 actually has slightly lower system requirements when compared to Windows Vista.
So, if your laptop runs fine with Vista, it would run fine, if not a little better with Windows 7.

How would you go about changing the OS?

Well...

1.
Back up any pictures, documents, music, etc... that you want to keep.
Back it up to DVDs or USB flash drives... whatever.

2.
Go to the nearest retail store that sells Windows 7.
That could be Staples, Office Max, Office Depot, Best Buy, etc.
Purchase the copy of Windows 7 that you want.

3.
Go home.

4.
Boot your laptop.
Insert the Windows 7 disc into the laptop.
Follow the instructions presented to you after the Windows 7 installer begins.

OR

4.
Insert the Windows 7 disc into your laptop and boot to the disc.
Follow the instructions presented to you after the Windows 7 installer begins.

end of line.

You may find that Windows 7 is a bit faster than windows vista and some minor improvements

To change from windows vista to windows 7 and still keep your files, you have to do get an upgrade disc.

here's a link to show your the prices http://www.microsoft.com/windows/buy/win...

and here's a link from microsoft that show you how to upgrade windows vista to windows 7. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windo...
