Should I Keep My Birds Separated?

Postby Treacy » Fri Sep 15, 2017 6:18 pm

I have 3 cockatiels- mom, 6yrs old and her two kids male and female who are 4 months old. I keep mom and the female in a big cage in the living room and just recently started keeping the male in my room. I don't want the male and female to become attached to each other where they scream if one is not with them (that happened to me before) and mate with one another. My male is extremly attached to me, I raised them both since they were two days old. But whenever I leave the room, he SCREAMS. I have to go to school from 7-2:30 and usually have tennis till 6pm, but I put on the TV for the male and leave him with toys and a window to look out of. Should I keep them like this? Will my male eventually stop screaming?

The male cockatiel will eventually stop screaming. Yes keeping them like this is no harm. Try leaving toys for him only instead of the TV on. He might get annoyed. He'll eventually get used to the timing of when you leave your house and when you're back.
