Just Bought A New Core2 Extreme Processor...?

Postby Afham » Mon Oct 09, 2017 8:54 am

and I'm wondering will I be able to just plug it straight in and all be well? lol.

I've got an ASUS P5N-D motherboard, with currently an old Pentium E2180 dual core processor and the processor on it's way is a QX6850 Core2 Extreme...

The specs of the pentium are here:

And the specs of the core2 extreme are here:

My main concerns are the wattage difference, the pentium is 65watts, whilst the new one is 130watts. and also i'm using a 32bit windows 7.... is that ok?

Thankyou! :)

That will work, but to be honest you should have just replaced the Motherboard and the CPU instead of buying an out of date CPU, but anyway, it's still not to bad.

It will be fully compatible though. Just put the heatsink that comes with it on and your good to go, and you say that it's new so it will already have pre applied thermal paste so yeah, basically just plug and play, I don't think you need a bios update either.

32bit W7 is fine.

you're motherboard manufacturer,ASUS,lists this cpu as supported,so it will work.

wattage,fsb.socket,etc.all compatible.

the only thing is you may need to update your bios if it is prior to this bios revision.

if you have later bios then it will work. http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_S...

32 bit windows is fine.

The motherboard you have is still stable for the new processor just upgrade your power supply since going from a 65 watt to a 130 watt ,might need a bios update but i really doubt it
