Inexpensive External Mic That's Compatible With Canon Rebel T3i?

Postby Faran » Fri Sep 08, 2017 11:40 am

Hi, this is my first DSLR.
I'm new to all its functions and accessories so what's an inexpensive microphone I could use to interview a few people? And I don't know if it'd be possible but could I use a wireless microphone or something or does it have to be mounted onto the camera itself?

Thanks. :)

You can use secondary recording devices like an digital recorder with a lapel mic, but you will have to sync the audio in post. If you'd like to avoid having to manually sync the audio in post you can plug a corded lapel mic into the camera or connect a shotgun mic to the camera (using either the hotshoe mount or using a boom pole).

I suggest to people starting out, that they buy a lapel mic with a long cord. If you're near a computer/laptop while shooting you can also look into USB microphones like the Blue Yeti (although not ideal for mobile interviews)

Hope this helps.

You should have luck search around amazon for various microphones as well.
