Home Theater Audio Question?

Postby Gauthier » Sun Sep 17, 2017 12:17 pm

HI, I just had Time Warner Cable installed and I am having trouble connecting that to my speaker towers. Right now the HDMI cable is supplying the sound from the cable box to the TV speakers. The tower speakers are wired to a stereo, so my question is how do I get sound to output through the tower speakers from the cable box?

Home Theater Audio Question?

Does the cable box have left/right RCA output jacks for the audio? If so - get some good RCA cables and run from these to some inputs on your stereo.

Now - that is actually a crappy connection which is crippling the 5.1 sound from your cable box to 2.0.

Home theater is 5.1.
HDMI carries 5.1.
You need a modern AV Receiver that can decode 5.1 from either the HDMI cable - or from the optical output of your TV.

You are trying to use old-school stereo gear on a modern 5.1 system - it's not going to work well.

Sounds like your needing a receiver. Most HD cable boxes do come with an optical output. Look into that.

Send the audio from the cable box to the unit that is powering your tower speakers.
