I Downloaded An X264 Codec .mkv File Using Vuze, Now How Do I Play It?

Postby Cahir » Mon Aug 14, 2017 8:24 am

So I wanted to try using Torrents and I downloaded this .mkv file (which means its using the x264 codec).
Now, I can't play those with VLC (i'm on a pre-Intel mac, so I can only get VLC 0.9) but Vuze was all "just click and play" and it allegedly installed some HD Player on my hard drive.

Well, when I click the "Play" button in Vuze, it just seems to upload the file for other downloaders.
No player opens or anything.
I can't even *find* the supposed player.
So now I'm stuck with an x264 file when I can only play XviD files, as before.
What am I doing wrong?

Sooooo frusssstrating! *bangs head on desk*

I know very little about Macs but You could try downloading the CCCP or K-Lite codec packs. Google will bring both results up.

Install the Perian codec package (requires OS X 10.4.7 or newer). If the x.264 (H.264) video is in HD, it may still play very choppy depending on the specs of your PPC Mac. http://perian.org

Believe it or not, MKV is not video, and when you try to play it, it WILL play, but then it will skip, and freeze, because it is actually a container for videos, and audio files. You need to strip it of it's MKV, and convert it to proper format. Yes, K lite codec pack is the best though.
