Does A Tripple Crown Count Both Leagues Or Just One?

Miggy won the American League Batting Triple Crown but if you lead the entire league in the respective stats, you are a Major League Triple Crown winner. This happened five of 17 times for the batting crown and twelve of 38 times for the pitching crown

Miguel Cabrera ended the season .330/44/139 while NL leaders of AVG/HR/RBI ended .336/41/115 so only because of Posey's .336 avg, Miggy wasn't Triple Crown champ of the entire Major League.

2012 leaders

NL AVG Buster Posey

NL HR Ryan Braun

NL RBI Chase Headley

Stats are listed in

Batting Average/Home Runs/Runs Batted In

The Triple Crown goes to the player who leads HIS league in batting average, home runs and runs batted in.

But since there is now inter-league play, in my opinion, the Triple Crown does not mean as much as it did when the two leagues were completely seperate. (Thanks for that great idea of inter-league play, Bud Selig, you idiot.)

If a player wins the Triple Crown it means he has led the league in which he plays (National or American) in Batting Average, RBIs and Homers. So if I am a player for the Pittsburgh Pirates, who play in the NL, I would only need to lead the NL in those categories. If a player should happen to top all of the Major Leagues in these categories it is an even more remarkable feat, but it is not necessary to win the Triple Crown.

It's per league; and you couldn't just "hypothetically" have two Triple Crown winners in one year, it's already happened.

In 1933, Chuck Klein of the Philadelphia Phillies won the NL Triple Crown while Jimmie Foxx of the Philadelphia A's won the AL Triple Crown.

A triple crown is an individual stat and, theoretically, you can have an AL Triple Crown Winner and an NL Triple Crown Winner in the same way that you have MVP's and Rookies of the year from both leagues.

Winning the Triple Crown is not a very easy feat.

Just one.
Separate leagues.
Seems kind of silly in the days of interleague play but that's how it is.
