Can I use a windows 2000 installation disk to repair corrupt windows XP config/software file?

Postby angelo89 » Thu Feb 14, 2013 3:21 am

I am running windows XP on my laptop. Got the blue screen of death today. Managed to take a pic of the screen before the computer restarted. The problem is that it could not load: /system root/system32/config/software. I cannot locate my windows XP disk, but I can use a windows 2000 disk to get into recovery mode. Is it possible to use this disk to copy the software file from the disk and fix the problem? If so, how would I do this? Thank you!
