Nope, with a clean install cd you can install windows 8 without having to have windows 7. The only reason you would need 7 is if you bought the windows 8 upgrade cd that requires a previous version of windows to be installed

Can I Install Windows 8 Without Installing Windows 7?

NO!

Windows 8 is a stand-alone OS, and all you need is to download and burn the ISO file. It's a simple installation, though it takes longer to initially boot up for the process to start. the installation is hands-free, with only the serial key requested to input.

Just to let you know that Windows 8 is not a breakthrough OS, but pretty much what you are used to seeing on tablet pcs and current portable devices. It is pretty much a CLOUD-style OS system, nothing more. Linux has been innovating with this style over past 5 years, and if you use Fedora Linux, or JOLI-OS, then you pretty much know what to expect with Windows 8. By the way, Intel has just released their new CLOUD style OS for Notebooks, which is similar to these, and runs from a DVD disc. No need to install to hard drive.
