Are Ge Cameras Any Good?

Postby Conan » Sat Sep 16, 2017 10:20 am

I'm thinking about purchasing a GE X500 Power Pro Series Digital Camera, but I'm hesitant because I don't know anything about GE cameras. It's main allure for me is the price, only $149. I've heard that you should only buy cameras from people who have been making them for a long time, ie nikon and canon, but I'm not the financial position to drop half a grand, if not more, on a camera. So I'm basically looking for reviews, advice, opinions, anything that could help me with my decision.

All the reviews I've read on the X500 are from people who start off by saying that they're not photographers.
Let me tell you the bottomline - GE makes lightbulbs.
Sony, Pentax, Nikon, Canon, Casio, and Samsung make cameras.

I guess the X500 looks good out of the box, but I dare say it won't hold up.
The specs look good, but the build is most likely plastic on plastic.
By the way, despite the name, you'll not find any "Pro" users for that camera.

There are very nice $149 cameras out there from the major camera makers.
I'd stick with the big boys here.

I would stick to the big name brands like Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic, Fujifilm, etc.

Canon and Nikon definitely have been making cameras for a long time. They do have some expensive models, but those are primarily dSLRs. You don't have to worry about those.

They have very good point-and-shoot cameras as well, and they won't cost and arm and a leg. For example, Canon's A-series cameras start at about $90 and go up to about $170.

General Electric is great in making light bulbs and refrigerators. Yes, they are.
