Is 1.5gb Of Ram Good/fast?

Postby Iorwerth » Wed Sep 27, 2017 7:33 pm

ok so i recently bought a custom PC with 3 slots for RAM atm there is 2 x 512mb sticks of RAM in the slots, the other slot i want new RAM for, the RAM i need is either 1gb/512mb DDR 400MHz, because the 2 slots have 512mb will it matter if i use a stick of 1gb in the other slot if its still DDR 400MHz? Also will it be Fast on windows XP?

and one more thing, once when i took the RAM out to check what it was when i restarted the computer i got a error message?

Thanks in advance

for windows xp 1.5 gb ram is decent and should be fast enough... it's really not considered good by today's standards.

when taking out the memory and putting it back in you most likely didn't re-seat the memory properly. memory is very sensitive and like to be a pain in the a** if not put back in properly.. make sure you're putting it in the right slot, and go at it diagonally one side then push the other side down.. the 2 levers should click in place if done properly.

For a custom PC it is using technology that is years out of date; you cannot buy new motherboards that use DDR 400MHz RAM any longer.
So your PC won't be fast at all by modern standards.
You should be able to add either 1 GB or 512MB in the third slot but you may not see any improvement; it depends very much on what you are using the computer for.
